Pelva Naik: Anubhuti in Auroville 13 March 2022
Celebrating the International Women’s Day, Arpanaa is delighted to present ANUBHUTI an experience of Dhrupad, the oldest form of Indian Classical music. Through this event we bring to you one of the leading exponents of her generation Pelva Naik, who has carved significant inroads in a predominantly male bastion of dhrupad gayaki. Pelva has been trained in the Dhrupad style of vocal music under the eminent Dagar School of Indian classical Music. She is a disciple of legendary Dhrupad maestro Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar. She has also received proficient guidance from Rudraveena maestro Ustad Mohi Bahauddin Dagar. Since the year 2010 She has been traveling to perform and teach Dhrupad all over the globe. Apart from countless prominent stages in INDIA, Pelva has performed at a number of prestigious music platforms outside India. To name a few: Theater De La Ville – PARIS, Festival De Fes – MOROCCO, Ravenna Festival – ITALY, Darbar Festival – LONDON. As a teacher of Art, Music and humanities she believes that- “ In order to understand Art and creation in its essence, it is very necessary to approach various bodies of humanity through the window of Art, Sound, Space, Words and Visuals and ultimately understand Art as a whole- as a Living breathing procedure.” This event is unique, as after the performance the artist, who is an articulate speaker, will explain the process of what happens on stage during a concert. This will be a wonderful opportunity to understand the nuances of a Dhrupad concert and some of its fundamental principles.
