Matrimandir Lake Dam Extension
The excavator we see here was already at MM. And it had its normal arm, which was great for digging. But a longer arm was needed to continue the making of the dam. Having the machine going up and the down the hill with one Lego block at the time would have been time consuming and inefficient. So the MM people found an old but longer arm. They brought it to MM, made a few welding modifications, and added it to the excavator machine. The previous short arm is kept for excavations, because this is a multi-purpose machine. The excavator also, had to get some extra weight at the back, to stay in balance while it operates. And that's why we see these two Lego blocks attached at the back of the excavator. Each Lego block weighs two tons. The work is much easier and goes much faster now. Up at ground level, each Lego block is brought to the edge of the cliff. Here the excavator standing at the bottom picks it up, and just with a simple rotation it places it on the dam where the workers ensure it is interlocked properly. So now the first work that needs to be done is completing the full width of both dams. And after that the dams will be raised up to the top (ground level), which is another 5 meters from where the dams are now. The deadlines are: completing the width of the two dams before the summer monsoon, which comes at around July, and should bring about one and half meter of water. And then to raise the dams to the full height in time to catch the winter monsoon, which will bring much more water to the lake.
